Thanksgiving!

It's been awhile since we've updated our prayer requests, and I am really not sure that anyone sees them! But, just in case, we'd like to share our joy. We are so thankful that this year we'll share Thanksgiving with our little Elizabeth Lynn, born on August 21, 2008. God has blessed us tremendously! We also thank Him for Angel's "second" job which has helped us now that we have one extra person person in the family. Please pray for:

Greta's health: all seems to be well, but we're still doing some check ups from some problems that were pre-Elizabeth.
Continued work for Angel: the company he works for has had quite a slow down in orders, which means less work for him.
The ministry: Angel currently leads two house groups, and continues to work as the youth director of our church.

We covet prayers, because we know that only through God's grace are we able to work and minister in this community. Thanks!

35 Weeks and Counting

Here at the Hernandez home we're starting to count down the weeks. As we get closer to our delivery date of August 21, 2008, we ask that you join us in prayer for the following items. Please pray:

that the baby will continue to develop as it should, and as it has been doing thus far.
that the upcoming labor and delivery will go smoothly and that no surgery will be needed.

Also, please pray for our family in the following areas:

that God will continually reveal His plan to our family.
that Angel will have the stamina and strength he needs at work each day.

The Time is Nearing!

Today is May 12, 2008. Today is my sister's wedding anniversary. Wednesday is our 3rd wedding anniversary. Soon, there will be three of us! (Well, there already are three of us...just one of us whose on the inside right now!) As August gets nearer, I am starting to want the time to go quickly so our little one will be on the outside world with us!

We continue to thank the Lord for His mercy and grace. He provides our every need!

Please join us in praising the Lord for the following:

The house church vision is expanding among the church!
One woman accepted Christ after much prayer and involvement with the church. She has become a new creation!
Angel and Mario have begun to share the vision with another church in the area.
The youth and singles groups in Brenham have increased in size, and Angel has begun to share the house church vision with them.
The Lord provided a temporary job for Angel, and a babysitting job for Greta.

Please join us in praying about the following:

That the Lord would provide more opportunities to cast the house church vision among His people.
That the Lord would bring more people to Himself as a result of faithful witnesses from our church.
For the families in our church. Pray that God would restore relationships and that men and women would take seriously their God-given roles in their marriages.
For the youth and singles of our church. Pray that a love for God would be the priority in their lives.

Happy Spring!

We continue to enjoy the wonderful spring weather here in Texas. We know it will get hotter--much hotter--as the days turn into summer. For now, though, we simply thank God for the beauty of Spring.

Much has happened since we arrived in Texas and we continue to covet your prayers. Below you will find our latest petitions and thanksgivings.

PLEASE PRAY:
--for Angel as he preaches every last Sunday of the month.

--for guidance as Angel plans strategy for the youth group, and as Greta writes/modifies discipleship material for children. Pray that these groups will grow strong in their love and knowledge of the Lord.

--for continued provision of needs--physically, spiritually, and financially.

--for Greta as she continues to find her "niche" in this new community. Pray that she will find a way to make friends with women around her.

THANK GOD FOR:
--His continued provision of our needs. We continue to stand amazed at how God provides for our needs just at the right time.

--communication. Greta, in particular, is thankful for a season of being able to call her family at a much lower rate than when we lived in Mexico!

--the church, Fuente de Vida. We have become the part of a wonderful church family and truly appreciate the times of worship and fellowship we enjoy.

We've been a little slow with updates, but we hope to get them going more frequently in the weeks to come. Thanks for your prayers!

Update: February 15 2007

Thank you for checking out our prayer requests. We have certainly felt the many prayers that have been brought before God on our behalf as He has helped us settle in to our home in Brenham!

We continue to praise Him for His continued blessings. We have a fully furnished apartment, and we didn't buy a thing! We simply knew that when we left Mexico, God directed us to leave it all behind. We sold everything. The cash helped us to get to Brenham and buy some basic items. We kept praying, "Lord, please help us use our money wisely!" Some folks from a church in Garland, TX, heard about us and within a few weeks we had a kitchen table, a sofa, a recliner, a bed and a few small end tables. WOW! Praise the Lord, for we know that these blessings--and several others we've received--come from Him!

Please pray for the following items:

House groups that will start in 4 zones here in Brenham. Pray for those that will train to be leaders of these groups and for those who will attend.
The church as we guide them into this new vision. Pray that everyone will understand the vision and allow themselves to break from traditional church as we move into home groups.
The youth here in Brenham. Pray that as they begin to gather that we will be able to lead them into deeper relationships with Christ.
Our continued "settling in" here. Pray that we will meet people outside of the church and that God will give Angel a quick ability to speak and understand English.

Greetings from warm-sunny-cold Ojo de Agua! We froze the week of Thanksgiving and now we're enjoying warm weather again. Of course, our uninsulated cement house holds the cold rather well, so we awake not wanting to slip out of the warm cozy covers! Despite the cold floors and walls, however, our hearts are as warm as ever as God continues to show us His amazing character in many ways. Please join us in praising Him and praying for the following items:

Prayer Requests:
* We have finally been given an interview appointment for Angel's resident visa! Please pray for our trip to Ciudad Juarez on December 7-13. Pray that we will have grace before the Consular agent who will administer the interview. Pray that we will have a safe trip flying to the other side of the country and back!

*Please pray as we travel this Friday, December 1, to Guanajuato, Mexico. We will spend the weekend with Angel's sister, and then I will head to Leon, Guanajuato, for a few days to help my MK friend Rachel Beel supervise a small group of MK's while their parents meet with Rachel's dad. Pray that we will be safe on the highway, and that God will use the time to speak to the MKs.

*Please pray for us as we make preparations for leaving the house in December. One way or another, we will not be in the same house after December! We believe that it God's time for us to move and work in TX. We're praying that all will go smoothly.

Praises:
*Thank God that all of our preparing--so far--has gone super well. God is providing in many ways, and we stand amazed at His timing.

*Thank God that the youth group at the church in Ojo de Agua has raised up leaders! Pray especially for: Eduardo, Miriam, Kris, and Heidi as the lead the group in various ways.

*Thank God that the youth "cell group" in Villa de Real, Tecamac, Mex., has grown and is now an independent group with its own leaders. Pray for Fernando, Angel, Cecilia, and Luz Elena as they lead youth in this neighborhood to Christ.

*Thank God that the adult group in Villa de Real also has leaders in place. Pray for Victor and Elsa as they grow in their relationship as a couple and as they lead others in their neighborhood to Christ and disciple them.

For now, please continue to pray for the resident visa process we have been in for about a year and a half now! We're praying that Angel will receive his visa so we can begin work our work in TX.

We have some updates for you~

Thank you for praying:
--for economic provision. Part of the answer God has given is to provide a small "part-time" job for Greta doing office related tasks for a friend via the internet.
--for the youth. We see leaders emerging and growth in the various places where we work with the youth.

Please pray for:
--Greta's mother. Greta's mom, Peggy, had surgery on a blood vessel in her head. The surgery went well and she is recovering, but needs prayers as the process moves along slowly.
--financial needs. We still do not have what we need to attend the conferences. Please pray that God will provide.
--Angel's visa process. We are praying that God will allow us to be in the states by Nov/Dec of this year to be able to visit family and be with Greta's mother.
--church planting efforts. Pray that God will indicate clearly where we should concentrate our efforts.

Hello! Thank you for checking out our most recent requests! We continue to see God working among the youth in our area, and we know that your prayers are vital!

Some recent answers:

Several new young people have joined our meetings and want to know more about Christ.
Three young people want to obey the Lord in baptism.
Greta's health problem has been confirmed and the one-pill-a-day-for-life treatment has begun.
Leaders are being raised up from within the youth group and among adults to work with the youth.

Some recent prayer requests:

For the leaders to find their places so that we can concentrate more on church planting.
For economic support, as we do not currently receive funds from a mission board or church.
That God will provide for our daily needs and that He will give us (and specifically Angel) temporary work opportunities.
That the support we need to attend 2 conferences in October and November will be provided.
For the area in which God would have us focus on church planting.
For the resident visa process we have pending.

An Update Between Updates

Please continue praying for:

Greta's health: With the endocronologist's help, we have determined that the most likely cause of Greta's health problems is hypothyroidism. One more blood test to go to confirm before treatment--a lifetime of one pill a day--begins.

The youth we work with: Pray for leaders to emerge from within the group, so we can begin to concentrate more on church planting. Pray that God will call church planters to walk along with us from among the same youth group.

Daily provisions: God has been so faithful in providing for our needs, and we continue to ask that you pray for us as we depend on Him to continue providing.

Church planting: We believe that God is starting a church in San Jeronimo. Pray for us and the families involved. Pray for the Torres Ancona family and the Vargas Ancona family as they become more involved in the new work.

Happy Birthday to my sister, Johanna, who celebrated her 4oth yesterday! :) We love you, Jo!

Recent happenings:

The youth group in San Jeronimo continues to go strong! The family who lives in the house where we minister on Saturdays believes that God is leading them to open their house for a church start. Please pray for us as we seek God's direction in this possible new church.
We see an opening in the hearts of the youth in Ojo de Agua. Please pray for them as they struggle with how to broaden their group and reach out to the youth in this community.
Angel will begin to collaborate with God in a men's small group Bible study on Fridays at 9pm. Pray for him as he prepares to share with these new believers.

We continue to ask you to pray for the following personal items:

Greta's health. We picked up results of a blood sample taken last week. Since Greta's doctor is on vacation, we will not know exactly what is going on until July 23. Please pray that whatever is not functioning properly will be easily treated!
Provision for needs. We continue to trust God to provide for our daily needs. Please pray that He will provide sources of income as we serve Him in His work.
General health, etc. We continue to ask that you pray for our general health and for continued emotional wellness as we minister alongside the local Baptist church in Ojo de Agua to reach youth for Christ and to start new works in the areas where God leads us to go.
Angel's visa situation. We have received communication from the American Consulate. We pray for God's will to be done.

We thank you for your prayers and petitions on our behalf. We praise God because we know that the following items come as direct results of your intercession:

Angel, a young 1-year old Christian, has commited to baptism.
Cecilia, also a 1-year old Christian, has commited to deepening her relationship with Christ by learning to maintain her focus on Him in all situations.
Four of "our" youth will attend CONAJEBA, a country-wide Baptist youth conference in Puebla, Mexico from July 23-28, 2006.
God is leading us to new communities and to people who long to know more about the true, living God!
We have a wise and helpful doctor who has patiently walked us through processes to find out what is happening with Greta's health.
God continues to bring glory to Himself by working in our lives and allowing us to be a witness for Him to others who do not know Him.

PRAISES!

Number one: God provided Angel with a temporary painting job. We have found that He has continually provided for us just when we need it, allowing us to focus on the ministry.

Number two: Angel drove to his "job" today! Yes, we own a vehicle now! We give thanks to God for giving us the wisdom to wait and allow Him to provide the perfect situation for us. The car will help us tremendously in visiting the areas where we work...and as an aside--Wal-Mart, here we come! :)

2 SPECIAL REQUESTS

1. POSSIBLE TRIP TO GUATEMALA
Please pray for a possible trip to Guatemala to attend a conference on "Youth Ministry." This particular conference showcases youth ministry contextualized for the Latin American community.
* Pray that if this conference is part of our training for what God has ahead for us, that He will confirm our attendance, providing the needed financial resources to get there.

2. Greta's Health
Somewhere in mid-July Greta will have some blood tests done. Although there should be no reason to fear, pray that the results will help to clarify some health issues she is experiencing.

JUNE 2006

Thank you so much for your prayers! We continue to see how God uses your faithful prayers to guide us as we collaborate with Him!

We want to share with you some answers to the prayers you have spoken.

YOUTH/SINGLES
* Five of the more consistent of the group have defined ministries they will carry out within the group. One, in particular, is catching the vision of multiplication through the ministry he has developed.
* We have had several chances to meet with those we consider "on the fringe" and through our visits, the Lord has opened up a vision for reaching them in a new way.

CLOWN-PUPPET MINISTRY
* We have helped to define the areas where this ministry will begin to work.

MISSIONS EDUCATION
* We still have not advanced much in this area; however, the Lord has refreshed our vision for multiplying churches. We attended a Congreso de Sembradores de Iglesias (Church Planting Conference) and felt even more convicted that multiplying churches will reach many people for Christ!

PERSONAL
* The Lord continue to provides for us as we simply seek to collaborate with Him. We celebrated our first anniversary on May 14, and we have been so blessed as we recount how He has provided! Giving up the monthly income I had, along with no worries about rent payments, car payments, or even fuel payments for traveling around was quite daunting. However, God has provided for Angel and I always just in time and we have grown so much simply from depending on Him!

Thank you for praying! Please continue to support us in this way by praying for:

YOUTH/SINGLES
* Our chats with those that come only to the Sunday service, but not to discipleship groups has helped us to adjust to what we believe God is doing. On June 10, we will start a home discipleship group in the pueblo of San Jeronimo. If God permits, we will do the same in 3 or 4 other areas. Basically, we see this as a type of "cell group" movement among the youth. Pray that the Lord will guide us as we begin meeting in these areas.

CLOWN-PUPPET MINISTRY
* Please pray that the other couple involved in beginning this ministry will take over the leadership, and not expect us to lead. We feel God has called us to a different ministry, although we will help out with the clowns as needed!

MISSIONS EDUCATION
* For now, please pray that what God is doing with the youth/singles will allow the church as a whole to grasp a vision for multiplication. Pray for us as we use what we have learned and experienced as we work with these new groups.
* Pray that if God would have us use these groups as springboards to start house churches in the areas, that He will give us the wisdom to do it!

PERSONAL
* Continue to pray for God's provision. He has given Angel several opportunities to do various jobs that always cover our needs.
* Please pray that He will guide us as we make purchases, etc., so that we will honor Him with our finances.
* Please pray for Greta's health.

First of all, we ask you to please continue praying for the youth/young singles that we are working with.
* Please pray that those within the group will continue to grow in their relationships with Christ as they continue in discipleship.
* Please pray that the Holy Spirit will convict those on the "fringe" of the group to commit to discipleship.
* Please pray for those who have begun to develop a specific ministry--that they will grow in their relationship with Christ as they serve Him, and that their
service will not be seen as a "duty" or "favor" but as a response to their growing relationship with Christ.

Second, we ask that you please pray for a developing ministry involving clowns! For the "International Day of the Child," the church presented a program for children in the area. A part of that program included clowns and puppets. Several of the people involved in the program felt that the Lord was leading them to continue the use of clowns and puppets to reach out to four of the areas where new works are being started. * Please pray that the "Clown/Puppet Team" would be able to realize plans for bringing the ministry to the areas of Los Heroes de Tecamac, Villa de Real, Tizayuca, and
here in Ojo de Agua.
* Please pray that God would provide the resources needed to carry out the ministry. The team will need to provide materials for clown costumes, CD's/cassettes,
tracts, and more in order to share Christ's message with the people in their area.
* Please pray that many will respond to Christ and that new congregations will be gathered in the areas mentioned.

Finally, we ask you to pray for Angel and I as we seek the Lord's guidance in preparing a "Missions Education" for the church.
* Please pray that we will appropriately plan a mural that will educate the church members on the areas where the church is currently working.
* Please pray for Angel as he prepares to share a missions "strategy" with the church; that the church will be receptive to the Lord's leading.

For us personally, please pray that the Lord will continue to provide for us--physically and spiritually--as we await His timing in all that we do.

* The youth at the Primera Iglesia "Jesus El Buen Pastor". Pray for Angel as he leads the "older" half of the group in discipleship, and for Greta as she leads the "younger" half in a study on "Christian Dating Relationships."
* Pray for Angel as he seeks to continue to share a "Missions Vision" with the congregation.
* Pray that the Lord will continue to provide for our needs as we serve here in Mexico, and as we await approval of a resident visa for Angel to be able to serve in Texas.

We thank you for praying for us! On February 14 we celebrated 9 months of marriage, and we continue to be amazed at God's continued provision in our lives. In only 9 short months, He has done so much in our lives! Our prayer is that He will continue to grow us and stretch us, and that as He does, that He will continue to strengthen us as a family. Everyone keeps asking, "What about pictures?" We admit that we're a little slow in that area, so until we take one we both really like, here's one from the honeymoon:

Please pray for:
-Angel as he prepares to educate our current church on Missions--Global and Local
-Angel and Greta as they lead the youth/singles group into an awareness of Chrisitan living.
-the paperwork we need for Angel's visa to arrive and that the Consulate will set an interview date and that they will approve the visa. (This is for the proposed work in Texas.)
-continued provision of basic needs as we await the "next step."
